THE SOVEREIGN DROP 035 — On Your Biggest Bottleneck
Not a newsletter, but a ritual. One drop each week. Distilled wisdom for the whole man.
Field Note: On Your Biggest Bottleneck
You can describe the man you aim to become with great precision.
Your ideal mornings and evenings.
The number of times you work out each week.
What you say no to.
What you won’t take on.
How you communicate and lead.
The version of you who delegates instead of drowns, who decides what only he can do instead of doing everything.
You can draw him from memory. Then you close your notebook and go back to being the other guy, the old guy. The familiar guy.
The gap between who you are and who you’re becoming isn’t information.
The bottleneck isn’t clarity. It’s consent to the cost of changing.
A man told me this week: "So I just decided to BE who I wanted to become."
Brilliant. That was the whole intervention.
He didn't optimize for it. He didn't stack habit on top of a habit. He just stopped treating his future self as a place he was traveling toward and started being him immediately.
Not surprisingly, he hit his goal with ease.
You keep saying becoming. Becoming is a verb that never has to arrive. It's the most sophisticated form of stalling I’ve ever seen.
The man you describe you’re becoming isn't waiting for you to be ready. He's waiting for you to stop negotiating the price and just pay it.
I believe in what you are becoming.
Question
What are you waiting to feel before you'll let yourself act like the man you've already described?
Integration
Pick one area where you're clearly living in the gap. Stop treating the future version of you as a destination. Act as him for a day.
Benediction
Stop traveling toward the man you already are. Arrive.
