THE SOVEREIGN DROP 046 — On The Structures Around You

Not a newsletter, but a ritual. One drop each week. Distilled wisdom for the whole man.

Field Note: On The Structures Around You

The readers of this Drop are fast. (“Moving, acting, or happening with great speed.” -Gemini)

Fast at learning, growing, and changing.
Fast at seeing the better way.
Fast to solutions.
All around - FAST.

All well and good. Don’t change anything above. What we’re here to deal with are the frustrations surrounding that.

Others aren’t fast and it’s mucking up things quite a bit.

You need them to implement your vision, but they can’t keep pace. Enter frustration, irritation, and waning hope. Righteously.

So there you are (and always will be) thinking fast and always ahead. Employing a team of people that struggle to implement your vision.

You’re not going to change your pace, the vision, or the people who work for you, but you can and should change the systems and structures everyone is operating in/with. THAT is in your control, and it moves the needle on getting people to operate more within your sphere.

This is also the space where you don’t want to take time to build the structures because...well, quite frankly, it’s annoying and you’re going to have to slow down to do so.

(Since you’re feeling the spotlight shining on you and think I wrote this specifically based on our most recent calls  - - please know that almost all of my calls the last month have had this exact thread which is why I wanted to address it in a greater and more conceptual format.)

The clarity:

You’re fast, they’re slow.
You need to build the systems and structures that will help your team keep pace with you.
They can’t do it.
Suck it up, set aside time, and get it done.
There’s no efficient way through this one.

If you did this, you’d remove a ton of bottlenecks and be able to reach the next level. Pushing it off isn’t solving anything, and at this point, it’s costing you a lot to have inoperable and broken systems. Look at it like crafting your own systems and scaffolding that allow you to operate at your fastest and finest.

Question

What are you calling your team’s slowness that's really your missing structure?

Integration

Switch gears for a week and build the systems to support your huge vision.

Benediction

May you slow down long enough to build what lets you never slow down again.

I believe in what you are becoming.
